single fins,mid lengths and bonzers

The Newton is the Vulcan’s little brother. This very versatile mid length board is easy to ride; a perfect cruising board for lazy days. The shorter length makes this board lighter and more maneuverable than the Vulcan, without losing the paddling, glide and style of a full longboard. A reduced nose width makes this board easy to turn, and the Low soft rail line makes for a smooth ride.

The electroglide is a true single fin and is all about style, converting the pure energy from the wave into smooth flowing lines. The fin at the apex of the vee drives with the rail giving excellent projection through swooping bottom turns. This board is designed to glide and trim from the mid point or carve and Pivot from the tail. available as either a rounded pin, squash or diamond tail.

A Good paddler with instant speed from the takeoff this bonzer is fast, drivey and carves well. The bonzer fin setup gives a real feeling of control with amazing projection, and no loss of speed through turns. The prophet is great for racing open walls and will hold well on a steep face.

“I just wanted to let you know that this board is without doubt one of the best boards I have had the pleasure to own for a number of years, in one word "Perfect”. I have been surfing for forty plus years, which is a bit scary - so when I say this, I am able to do so with an element of experience and knowledge of quite a few boards during my surfing lifetime” - Mark Regan Empire Surfer

What is a Bonzer?

The term Bonzer is used to describe a particular combination of fin setup and bottom shape that was first pioneered in the 70’s by Campbell Bros Duncan and Malcom. This design has it’s origins in an era when single fin surfboards dominated the line up. As the boards of this era became shorter and surfers were pushing the limits of their equipment it became apparent that these shorter single fin boards were not capable of maintaining the necessary levels of control in powerful surf. The Bonzer evolved as a way of to counter these weaknesses and gain more drive, control and down the line speed. The Bonzer setup allows surfers to push harder and perform tighter more critical turns that would normally cause a single fin to fail or spin out. This design uses a combination of concaves and fins to efficiently turn wave power into forward drive. Bonzers have a very noticeable feeling of speed and projection that comes from effectively containing water flow, forcing it through the fins and concaves and releasing it from the tail. All boards will loose some energy through water passing diagonally across the bottom board and releasing from the rail the Bonzer setup reduces these tendencies. Typically Bonzers have either three or five fins, a centre fin which is usually adjustable and two or four fins (runners) placed close to the rail. The bottom shape is a single to double concave. The single concave is usually subtly shaped into the mid section of the board and feeds water to the double concave through the fins. These concaves are shaped and arranged to direct water flow under the board, channelling it from the centre to the tail. The side fins have a long low profile and are almost an extension of the concave itself. They are placed on the outer edge of the double concave and help contain the water flow. As every surfer and surfboard is slightly different, Bonzer surfboards will need a little fine tuning to get them performing in a way that feels good to you. Start with the centre fin in the middle of the box. If the board feels slow or sluggish move the fin forward. If the board feels fast but isn’t giving you the hold that you need move the fin back. Only move the fin a quarter of an inch at a time as small movements will make a big difference to the performance of the board.

the phantom was originally designed to ride the large points and reefs of the north east and comes alive when the surf gets over four foot. The smooth curves, long lines and quad fins give precise control in the most critical conditions and will give you the confidence to really push your surfing. The bottom shape consists of a subtle concave that runs into a vee through the back third of the board. The excellent paddling and glide helps you cruise into waves earlier giving you more time to setup the drop. the Phantom is an essential part of any serious surfers quiver.
